A professional dog grooming de-shed involves a process aimed at reducing excess fur and promoting a healthier coat. Here’s what you can expect during a professional de-shedding session:

  1. Initial Assessment

    • Evaluate the pet’s coat and shedding level.

    • Check skin health and any underlying issues.

  2. Brushing & Dematting

    • Thorough brushing to remove loose hair, dirt, and mats.

    • Use of de-shedding tools like the Furminator, undercoat rakes, or specialized brushes to reach the undercoat.

  3. Bathing with De-Shedding Shampoo

    • Use of a shampoo formulated to help reduce shedding by promoting healthy skin and coat.

    • Often includes conditioners to smooth hair cuticles.

  4. Rinsing & Thorough Drying

    • Complete rinsing to remove all shampoo residue.

    • Drying with towels and blow dryers, ensuring the undercoat is dried to prevent matting and skin irritation.

  5. De-Shedding Treatment

    • Use of professional-grade de-shedding tools to remove excess loose undercoat hair.

    • Gentle but thorough removal of dead hair to reduce shedding significantly.

  6. Final Brushing & Styling

    • Finishing brush-out to smooth the coat and remove any remaining loose hair.

    • Light trimming if needed for coat shape.

  7. Nail Trim, Ear Clean, and Other Basic Grooming (Optional or Included)

    • Nail trimming and ear cleaning as part of full grooming or upon request.
